Introducing 5G-FIRE: Instant Remote Eyes for First Responders

5G-FIRE, short for “5G Firefighters’ Instant Remote Eye”, is a forward-looking vertical experiment launched by AzurIA (azuria.earth) – a French SME specializing in early environmental hazard detection using embedded AI. Selected as part of Imagine-B5G Open Call #3, this project upgrades AzurIA’s existing CamİA smart detection system with powerful 5G connectivity via the EURECOM 5G facility.

The result? Real-time remote visual access to fire-affected zones—streamed live from UAVs and high-altitude camera units straight into the hands of incident commanders. The Figure below shows; on the right: the prototype of CamİA embedded on a drone gimbal. On the left: the alert information received by the end user/decision maker with the chat interface to remotely control the camera.

🚁 Rethinking Fire Surveillance with 5G + AI

In today’s world, wildfires escalate rapidly, and every second counts. CamİA, AzurIA’s AI-powered detection box, can already trigger alerts via 4G, sharing a thumbnail and location with emergency services. But for real situation assessment and doubt removal, high-definition video streaming and remote control of camera orientation and zoom are essential—something that 5G can deliver effectively.

With 5G-FIRE, CamİA gains:

  • Instantaneous video streaming for rapid visual verification
  • Remote pan-tilt-zoom camera control
  • Multi-spectral imaging (visible + Infrared (IR)) for around-the-clock monitoring
  • Edge AI offloading to reduce device power load and enhance scalability
