5G4Reha in Imagine-B5G Open Call #3

The main goal of the 5G-driven tele-rehabilitation combining XR and biomechanical tracking (5G4Reha) project is to develop and make a real-world pilot regarding remote care by providing immersive equipment (esp. MR/AR headsets, 3D cameras) for seamless interactions between a remote medical expert and the patient that needs specialized diagnosis and treatment in the rehabilitation domain. For this pilot to work, future B5G technologies will be leveraged to provide high-quality immersive media with very low latency between the remote and local sites.

Main outcome of the project is the development of an advanced and 5G-supported telerehabilitation system 5G4Reha, which combines 1) Nissatech D2Rehab system for performing rehabilitation exercises which measure biomechanics of the movements (which is a new concept) and 2) Immersive Laboratory infrastructure: SIN-Lab (Norwegian Facility), to provide an immersive experience to the patient.

The proposed solution aims to impact the IMAGINE-B5G project as follows:

Technology provider Nissatech will extend D2Rehab system for telepresence-based usage (currently only in-person usage), expecting to create a pioneer (trend setter) position for advanced, XR-based telerehabilitation systems. Moreover, the system can be offered Europe-wide, requiring international partnerships, which could be possible with such an advanced system. The combination of these two markets is very promising:

  • Telerehabilitation market size accounted USD 4.3 billion in 2022 and is estimated to growth at 13.3% between 2023 and 2032.
  • The Extended Reality Market size is estimated at USD 111.97 billion in 2024, and is expected to reach USD 615.49 billion by 2029, growing at a CAGR of 40.61% during the forecast period (2024-2029).

Strategically speaking, the long-term goal is to be world-class provider of affordable and easy for usage, personalized, precise and proactive telepresence-based telediagnosis services in domains healthcare, fitness and professional sport, which are not only testing the physical/fitness performances, but also predicting the risk of injuries.

This project has already started its work in the IMAGINE-B5G third open call. If you want to learn more about this and the other selected projects stay tuned to our website and our social media channels.
