FIRESCAN in Imagine-B5G Open Call #2.

FIRESCAN (Forest Incident Response and Emergency Security Coordination and Networking) is a vertical experiment by MIDGARD and was selected as one of 15 projects in the inaugural Open Call of Imagine-B5G.

The project integrates MIDGARD’s FireGard and SitGard systems with Airbus’s AGNET communication platform to enhance firefighting and forest monitoring. FireGard uses AI to monitor over 2 million hectares, providing real-time fire alerts and video feeds, while SitGard leverages drones to deliver live video and GPS data to firefighters. By combining these capabilities with AGNET, FIRESCAN aims to optimize emergency response and situational awareness through 5G-enabled rapid data transmission and coordination, improving European firefighting efforts.

FIRESCAN leverages advanced 5G technology to enhance emergency response and forest monitoring. Integrating MIDGARD’s systems with Airbus’s AGNET seeks to create a coordinated fire detection, monitoring, and crisis management system. The focus is on rapid response and strategic decision-making during emergencies.

The proposed solution is poised to impact IMAGINE-B5G on multiple levels:

    1. Management Level

The validation phase demonstrates significant improvements in resource management through advanced 5G/B5G architectures and automated resource allocation:

    • Enhanced Resource Utilization: Zero-touch management reduces manual intervention, streamlines operations, and lowers OPEX.
    • Open Interface Capabilities: Vertical users can leverage open interfaces for AI-driven network enhancements and real-time fire detection applications.

    2. Societal Level

The project addresses critical societal goals by enhancing safety, security, and accessibility:

    • Safety and Privacy: Data encryption and GDPR compliance ensure trustworthiness and align with user safety standards.
    • Cost and Accessibility: Efficient deployment frameworks reduce costs, making emergency response systems more accessible to public safety agencies.

    3. Technical Level

FIRESCAN validates advanced 5G and IoT technologies tailored to emergency scenarios like forest fire management:

    • Unified and Distributed Environment: Integrating 5G, IoT, and cloud computing creates a scalable, efficient system for real-time fire detection, live drone video streaming, and rapid data sharing.
    • Low Latency: Leveraging 5G’s ultra-low latency capabilities ensures instant alerts and coordination among connected devices (drones, sensors, and mobile units).
    • Future-Proof Design with B5G KPIs: By aligning with B5G KPIs (e.g., ultra-low latency, high reliability, device density), the project provides insights into future emergency response technologies and defines B5G standards.

FIRESCAN’s innovative approach aligns with IMAGINE-B5G objectives by addressing management, societal, and technical dimensions. Its comprehensive solution enhances firefighting monitoring and management while contributing to the future of critical emergency response systems.

This project has already started its work in the IMAGINE-B5G second open call. If you want to learn more about this and the other selected projects, stay tuned to our website and our social media channels.
