IMAGINE-B5G partners UPV and UiO strengthens collaboration ties

On January 30th, the Immersive Communications Laboratory of iTEAM welcomed Professor Ozgu Alay from the University of Oslo, Norway.

The visit is part of the collaborative activities of the IMAGINE-B5G project. In the pursuit of creating synergies, discussions revolved around the possibility of collaboration with the immersive and robotic equipment available at the iTEAM’s Immersive Communications Laboratory and the SINLAB at the University of Oslo (UiO). Topics also included the UiO-UPV interconnection through GEANT or the Remote Education use case, which involves controlling UiO’s Shadow Hand robotic hand through the haptic and tracking elements of the iTEAM-UPV.

During the visit, Professor Alay had the opportunity to tour the Immersive Communications Laboratory and participate in demonstrations prepared by iTEAM researchers. These included responses to vibro-tactile, visual, and auditory stimuli, the creation of a 3D avatar using volumetric capture, and the integration of her image into a virtual immersive environment in the recording set.

Ozgu Alay is a Professor in the Department of Informatics and the leader of the Gemini IoT Center at the University of Oslo. She is also a guest professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Karlstad. Prof. Alay received her B.S. and M.S. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Middle East Technical University, Turkey, and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Tandon School of Engineering at New York University.
