IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC) took place in Valencia (Spain) 2-5 September. The symposium has become one of the two major conferences of the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) in the field of wireless communications and networking, which makes many companies and projects strongly interested in showcasing the advances they are achieving in mobile communications researching. IMAGINE-B5G has been present in PIMRC 2024 as its partners Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), Telefonica, Nokia and Keysight attended the event.
NOKIA has shown demonstrations of the use of NaC (Network as a Code) and CAPIF to perform remote tests on 5G modems and radio equipment deployed on the UPV campus for the IMAGINEB5G project. Using NaC and CAPIF APIs with VPN secure Internet access allows users or 5G infrastructure managers to interact with the infrastructure and modems from any location.
Also in the Telefonica stand attendees were able to see a summary video of the ADAPT-G Use Case that took place in July in the Port of Valencia. ADAPT-G is a Vertical Experiment aimed a revolutionising port surveillance through the integration of our technologies, including drones, AR devices and 5G communications. For its part, Keysight has shown instrumentation tools that are being used to characterize the performance of the UPV private network.
The event has been also the perfect place to let the professionals of the telecommunications area know and promote the 3rd IMAGINE-B5G Open Call that is scheduled to go live in October. In the third open call, third parties are invited to present proposals: to test and validate their novel vertical applications through pilots and trials on the IMAGINE-B5G facilities.On the other hand, Irene Alepuz (iTEAM-UPV) took part in the session Bridging Gaps: Female Researchers in Mobile Radio Communicactions at industry and academia where she presented the initiative Women in Telecommunications and Research (WiTaR) that promotes gender equality, inclusion and empowerment in the 6G Research & Innovation (R&I) community.
The dissemination of research carried out under the umbrella of the IMAGINE-B5G project is essential to connect key players in the telecommunications sector, including both academics and business leaders, with the latest advances that are shaping the future of 5G technology and later 6G.
